First things first, Vignette #2 has now begun its two week re-run—Valentine’s Day in December!

And, drumroll please, I have officially “won” the 2010 NaNoWriMo, having written just over 50K words on my YA project. Now, of course, I have to go back to the beginning and start editing, and then I have to write another 20K words or so before I have a workable manuscript. But I’m way ahead of the game, so I’m happy.

More business, my publisher ImaJinn Books is having a holiday sale. 40% off all print books purchased through the Imajinn Books website.

My publisher also tells me all of my books will be available from Amazon in Kindle format before too long, so that’s exciting! That Kindle button usually means more sales … music to my writer’s ears.

And I was flipping through Google, wasting time while taking a break from NaNo and discovered two new reviews of my books! Fun! Ezinearticles.com and Cat Walks Fantasia.

Also while wasting time with Google, I discovered yet another p2p site which is offering free downloads of my books! Booooooooooooooo. I’m happy to say, however, that this particular site was recently seized by the FBI. Yaaaaaaaaay! My publisher employs a company that does nothing but search for sites offering these free downloads. They notify the site of a copyright violation and file a request for takedown. The sites pretend they have no idea anyone was violating copyright – really? What a joke. It’s a huge problem and one that affects all authors, big and small.

On to much nicer things … Duncan. Need I say more? 😀

Today is cyber-Monday. But, you know what? I finished all of my cyber shopping yesterday! My holiday shopping is done! Which leaves me more time to write my new Vampire Vignette! And also a guest post I’ve got coming up on Fresh Fiction, but I’ll tell you about that later.

See you all next week!

SOPHIA and NaNoWriMo

November 22, 2010

Earlier this week, I opened an e-mail from my publisher and found . . . the cover concept for SOPHIA! It’s just the concept and there will be changes, but I was totally excited. I exchanged ideas with Patrish Lazarus, the wonderful artist who’s created all of my covers so far, and I think we both have the same final in mind.

One of the great things about most small press publishers is that they give the author a voice in cover design. It’s a weird thing, but I know best-selling authors with big publishing houses who have to beg for input on their covers. It’s all up to the marketing department.

By contrast, ImaJinn has always sent me the cover before it’s finalized and always taken my input seriously.

I know what you’re thinking … but when do WE get to see the cover? Answer: just as soon as it’s finalized and approved by my publisher. Believe me, I’ll be eager to share. 😀

In other news, I continue to make progress on my NaNoWriMo project. I should be able to hit 44,000 words later tonight. My current count as of late last night (or, more accurately, early this morning) was just over 42K words. The End is definitely near.

The Vampire Vignettes rerun continues. #1 will stay up for one more week. I’ve posted the schedule below for everyone’s information.

November 15th — Vignette #1 — A Vampire New Year’s Eve
November 28th — Vignette #2 — A Vampire Valentine
December 12th — Vignette #3 — The Invitation
December 19th — Vignette #4 — The Party
December 25th — Vignette #5 — to be announced.

Also, as promised, I’ve updated my What I’m Reading Now list. I’m always surprised, when I compile this list, by how many books I’ve read. It always seems like it’s been more than a single week. Maybe that’s why I don’t get any sleep!! Also, you should know that I read more books than what I post here. I only post the ones I enjoyed. I’m a writer and know how fragile we are when it comes to our work. I don’t want to give any negative reviews!

And, finally, this is a big holiday week in the U.S. So Happy Thanksgiving to everyone here. I hope you spend the day with those you love, and I hope those you love are safe and sound wherever they are in the world.

THE RETURN OF THE VIGNETTES!

November 15, 2010

Before you get lost in the Vignette, I’ll be guesting over at Paty Jager’s blog this Wednesday, doing a mini-interview of sorts. So, drop by and say “hello.” BUT NOT UNTIL WEDNESDAY! Or later. 🙂

Also, I’ve updated my What I’m Reading Now list. It’s been a while and I’ve read so many books that I’ve just posted the highlights. I’m going to try and remember to do that every week, since I probably read a couple books a week at least.

And, yes, the Vampire Vignettes begin their re-runs with the first one I ever wrote, A Vampire New Year’s Eve. I wrote it on a whim, just something for my readers while we all waited for the next book, and it was such a hit that I just kept writing more. The schedule of re-runs is listed below, culminating in a brand new Vignette for this New Year, too.

Here’s the schedule:

November 15th — Vignette #1 — A Vampire New Year’s Eve
November 28th — Vignette #2 — A Vampire Valentine
December 12th — Vignette #3 — The Invitation
December 19th — Vignette #4 — The Party
December 25th — Vignette #5 — to be announced

For those who follow such things, my NaNoWriMo project is going very well. I updated my word count to 30,470 last night. 30K was my mid-month target, so I’ll beat that handily by the time I finish writing tonight.

See you next week!

Yes, I had a major, jaw-dropping, heart thumping whoo hooing squeee moment this week. RT Book Reviews Magazine announced their 2010 nominees for the Reviewer’s Choice Book Awards and JABRIL was nominated. You can check it out here – RT Book Reviews 2010 Nominees.

I wasn’t expecting it. I didn’t even KNOW about it until the fantastic reviewer from Fresh Fiction (Hi Heather!) e-mailed to congratulate me. Winners will be announced at the RT Convention in April, which is nice because the convention’s in L.A. this year and it’s the first time I’ve been able to go. Of course, it would be lovely if I won, but it’s an honor just to be nominated. (Yeah, right. Everyone says that, no one means it. I mean it’s great to be nominated and I’m totally thrilled … but I’d be even more thrilled to WIN!!! LOL)

Anyway, so that definitely put a nice spin on my week. I’m thoroughly entrenched in NaNo — my word count as of this writing is over 17,600, which is not at all bad for the first week. I always like to start strong, because you never know what might slow you down at the end.

And, as promised, I’m posting the re-run schedule for the Vampire Vignettes. Notice that the first two vignettes will get a bit more face time, because I think more people have missed those two. But all four will run for at least a week before I post a brand new vignette to celebrate the winter holidays.

So that means the re-runs begin next Sunday, and this will be the last re-run for at least six months since I’ll be doing the run-up to SOPHIA after the first of the year!! Whoo hooo!

Okay, I’m going to get some more words in on my NaNo project before it’s time for sleep.

See you next week!

ONE, TWO and THREE …

November 1, 2010

Check out Fictionwise.com and you’ll see that for the second week in a row, my beautiful vampires are the number 1, 2 and 3 Best Sellers in Dark Fantasy.

We’ll see in the Spring if Sophia can give them a run for their money! 😀

I almost forgot today was Sunday. Or rather early Monday morning, since that’s when I always post here. I was so focused on starting NaNo this morning, that the day of the week didn’t even register. Combine that with Halloween and the brain was fairly preoccupied today.

I’ve actually been working this week on a schedule for another rerun of my Vampire Vignettes, ending with a whole new story just in time for the holidays. I receive e-mails all the time from readers who read the books after the Vignettes got started and so missed out on the early ones, or sometimes on all of them completely. I’m still working out the timetable, but I’ll probably begin the reruns later this month and post a whole new story for New Year’s, since the very first Vignette was New Year’s Eve story. It doesn’t feel like an entire year has passed. Wow.

I still haven’t settled on a story theme yet, although I’m leaning toward Rajmund and Sarah this time around. Especially since Raphael and Cyn are featured prominently in Sophia’s story. If you all have any thoughts on the matter, I’d love to hear them, since the stories are for you, after all.

In case you’re wondering, SOPHIA has been sent off to my publisher (and to the artist, too — I can hardly wait!!) Duncan’s story is making more and more noise in my head, but he’ll just have to percolate a bit longer because this month is for NaNo and a brand new, never before tried, writing exercise by yours truly. I’m venturing into the world of teens. We’ll see how that works. :-/

Speaking of which, it’s 1:46 a.m., which means NaNo has well and truly started and I’ve got to make my words for the day!! Yay!!! I’m off ……

See you next week!
